Stranded?

Thursday we took the scooter over to lingua to have lunch and watch the seas. We had been watching the weather for the last few days to try to get over to climb Stromboli but either the seas have been bad or the volcano was on fire. Yup there was a larger than normal eruption that caused a forest fire and the people who were up there had to stay up there above the tree line for the night. Yikes. On Thursday they also cancelled all of the boat trips because of the wind and growing seas. Lo and I were supposed to leave on the early ferry Friday, the next day, and were starting to get a little worried about being able to get off the island. Turns out we were right. That night the midnight slow boat going to milazzo was cancelled.

The next morning, after getting down to piazza with bartolino at the ungodly hour of like 530 am, he had to go to milazzo to get fitted for a suit for his sons wedding, we discovered that all ferrys were cancelled for the day.
(there's our little boat!)

Liparie was the only island running slow boats and they only ran one. So bartolino called his friend over there and they got all the people who wanted to come to Salina and brought them over here and we caught a ride back with them.
We rode 10 foot seas in a partly enclosed 20 foot pleasure boat. Brave.

 Hold on!

That was a big one!

Slightly calmer in Liparie's pumice mine bay

Once we got to liparie, slightly damp some of us wetter than others, we waited another 3 hours for the the nave to leave.

We got into milazzo around 6 pm and just made the 6 bus to messina where we just made the 7 bus to Catania. Long day. Once we dropped our stuff off we went out to dinner at this great cheap resteraunt that I love then went home (hostel in Catania) to bed around 1am. Lo left the next moring around 730 to go home, boohoo.  I failed in finding Cuban cigars for my dad so I began the long journey back to Salina  I managed to make the 5 hydrofoil from milazzo to Stromboli to panarea, to salina and thank god for Dramamine because that ride had not gotten much smother. People were vomiting left and right.
